Zambia appointed to smart Africa board
By BUSINESS REPORTER ZAMBIA is among the 12 member countries which have been appointed to the Board of Smart Africa initiative chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
This provides an opportunity for Zambia to be in the steering board providing leadership on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for socio-economic development as promoted by the African Union.
Transport and Communications, Brian Mushimba, who is currently attending the “Transform Africa Summit” in Kigali, Rwanda representing President Edgar Lungu was at hand to witness Zambia being admitted to the Smart Africa Board.
Mr Mushimba said in a statement that the development would help put ICT at the Centre of Zambia’s national-economic development agenda.
“Zambia is one of the fortyfour other African Countries to join the newly established African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) meant to create one African Market.
“This is Africa’s move towards an ICT and knowledge driven economy intended to increase Africa’s competitiveness in the global economy,” he said.
He said the creation of Smart Africa was a testimony of the resolve to put in place the right policy and regulatory environment that would encourage partnerships, entrepreneurship, job creation and knowledge sharing.
