Stanbic feeds vulnerable pupils

- By NATION REPORTER

WE are committed to feeding orphaned and vulnerable pupils, says STANBIC Bank Zambia chief executive Leina Gabaraane. Speaking during the handover of a newly built feeding shelter at Chainda 2pen Community School in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mr Gabaraane said making a difference in the community was a culture strongly entrenched in the bank’s philosophy and sustainability strategy. Mr Gabaraane said the banksponsored feeding shelter, which also doubles as a community hall provides at least one meal a day for the pupils, many of whom were unlikely to find one at home at the end of the school day. He said the bank does not see community development and citizen empowerment as a responsibility of government alone, but everyone’s responsibility. Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Principal Education Standards 2fficer, *race 6inkolongo, urged the pupils to focus on their education so that they could develop careers that would enable them to be active participants in building the economy and the country. And district Education Board Secretary, Beard Mwanza noted that it was gratifying to see private institutions taking a leading role in propelling education among the vulnerable in society. Mr Mwanza called on other institutions to emulate Stanbic Bank in supporting their local communities for national growth. The school is operated by the local community with support from =ambian 2pen Community Schools and serves about 700 orphaned and vulnerable children from surrounding neighborhoods.
