Upgrade CB peri-urban roads – Lamba council
By NATION REPORTER THE Lamba-Lima Council of Zambia (LLCZ) has appealed to government to upgrade the road infrastructure in the periurban areas of the Copperbelt.
LLCZ Executive Chairperson Josphat Nsundwe noted the upgrade of the roads had started in 2016 but that works had been abandoned. Mr Nsundwe said in an interview in Ndola that it would be prudent for the Government to fulfil its promises.
He said the bad roads in the area deprived Lamba land’s ability to attract investors who would help develop the area. “The Lamba people remember very well that during the election campaign in 2016, the road connecting Mpongwe to Machiya was contrived to be worked on as told by the political campaigners.
“The road works equipment was gathered at the road junction of the Nampamba agricultural Company leading to Mushingashi stream to the boundary of Senior Chief Ndubeni, to show that the Mpongwe- Machiya road would be worked on,” he explained. Mr Nsundwe said that to the astonishment of the people, the road construction works were abandoned with the equipment being removed from the site.
He said last month, Works and Supply Minister Felix Mutati assured Chief Machiya that the road connecting Machiya area to Mpongwe would be tarred and a bridge constructed over Kafue River. Lamba Lima Council, he said, hoped that the latest promise would be met.
