ZAFFA TO UPLIFT YOUTHS

By SPORTS REPORTER WE are determined to contribute to changing the lives of our youths though sports, Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA) general secretary Katwizi Chawezi has said.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka after receiving $25 000 from Aids Health Care Foundation Zambia for promoting a health living through sports, Katwizi said his organisation would use sports to educate youths on various diseases affecting them.

Chawezi noted that ZAFFA would today hold a workshop to sensitise youths on the dangers of HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and other dangerous diseases which affect young people.

“Our organisation recognises the powerful mobilising power football has among young people and adults in communities and =ambia at large. Mobilising children, youths and adults through soccer provides a safe space for them to avoid engaging in vices that put them at risk.

“Zambia at present records between 5200 to 6900 new HIV infections par year according to the 8NA,D.

“In line with the national health week theme, Promoting wellness for all, ZAFFA has lined up a trainer of trainers workshop and a soccer tournament aimed at drawing the attention of the youths and the general public to health lifestyles and disease prevention at individual and family levels. This approach falls within our HIV/AIDS campaign to facilitate the 2020 initiative,” Chawezi said.

He hailed Aids Health Care Foundation Zambia for supporting the ZAFFA agenda in promoting a health living through sports, among young people.

Chawezi noted that the support rendered would make a positive impact on the lives of youths in /usaka and =ambia at large.

He called on other corporate entities to emulate Aids Health Care Foundation by supporting health living though sports as the country celebrates the National Health week which was launched on Tuesday by 3resident (dgar Lungu at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
