‘Thumps up to MCM’
By SPORTS REPORTER AN upcoming Tennis player of Mufulira on the Copperbelt has hailed Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) plc for rolling out a tennis program for young people from less privileged backgrounds in the mining town.
13 -year old Keagan Chiteta of .ankoyo Township is particularly impressed with talent identification embarked upon by M&M to help vulnerable young people redeem their potential and talent in the sport of tennis.
The teenager said the Munior tennis program has assisted him and others to understand the importance of the sport at any early age.
Chiteta further commended the mining firm for enabling him and others to learn to master the art of tennis, including the food supplements given to them to keep them healthy and alert regardless of one’s situation from their respective homes.
He said that the programme was cardinal in the lives of young people because it has helped them to desist from bad activities that normally occur in densely populated Townships which lacked social amenities in any part of the country.
&hiteta said the Munior tennis programme has since encompassed children as young as three years also coming from disadvantaged backgrounds but were eager to make a difference in society.
The young lad told the Daily Nation sports in Mufulira that learning the sport at an early age was encouraging because the future was secured adding that the sky was the limit in the world of tennis in his life.
Chiteta said he was determined to become a better tennis player in future and represent the country both in regional and international tournaments.
He said that apart from playing tennis he also fi[es rackets that are broken during and after training, a trade he mastered from his coach.
Chiteta said if he was not playing tennis he was busy in the workshop fi[ing damaged rackets for his friends for the Munior tennis club team.
“Apart from Must being taught how to play tennis, we are also encouraged and motivated to work e[tra hard at school because education is the key to success in everything one does,´&hiteta said.
