Stop violence - UPPZ

-

By NATION REPORTER United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ), President Charles Chanda, has decried the high levels of intolerance among political players and immediately demanded an end to violence particularly during campaigns.

Mr Chanda charged that some political leaders were not willing to advise their members to desist from violence because their nature was to show authority through violence.

He said in Kitwe at a media briefing that some politicians tended to quote President Edgar Lungu out of context whenever he spoke so that they could incite people to engage in violence.

The opposition leader has since challenged the Government to eliminate violence through legal means

Mr Chanda said President Lungu was not only leader of the Patriotic Front (PF) members but Head of State, who should protect all Zambians as the constitution demanded.

He noted that the President has the power to end violence between political parties in the country.

In an apparent reference to Chilanga where a by-election would take place next month, Mr Chanda said the escalation of violence must not be tolerated by all citizens.

UPPZ is fielding Francis Kope in the June 5, 2018 by-election.

Mr Chanda said people were quick to blame cadres when in fact violence was being sponsored by leaders of the political parties who thought the vice would work to their advantage.
