Help State improve, health prosecutors told
HEALTH prosecutors should play a key role in helping government provide quality health services, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has urged.
Dr Chilufya said Zambians were in a hurry to see improved services in all health institutions but this was only possible if health prosecutors played a major role to this effect. He said health prosecutors should start their investigations and prosecutions with public health institutions to ensure improved service delivery. Dr Chilufya said this on Friday in Chongwe, in a speech read for him by permanent secretary for administration Dr Kennedy Malama during the closing ceremony of a 10-day practical advanced prosecutor’s course. The course which was organised by the Health Professional Council of Zambia (HPCZ) in collaboration with the Zambia Institute for Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) saw 65 candidates successfully complete the course. “Now in the presence of the council chair and registrar I repeat, investigations and prosecutions should start with public facilities number one. Don’t throw away your ethics, be impartial, honest and loyal to your employers this is very important,” he said. Dr Chilufya said being a prosecutor was a tempting job and warned candidates that ZIALE certificate would be withdrawn from anyone found wanting. He commended HPCZ for being innovative by investing in human capital and operational efficiency. And ZIALE director, Ann Malata implored the prosecutor’s to uphold professionalism and ensure justice prevailed above winning cases. HCPZ board chairperson, Professor Sekelani Banda said the course was crucial to help build capacity and enhance public confidence in their operations. The event was also attended by HPCZ registrar, Dr. Aaron Mujajati who thanked the Ministry of Health for its continued support.
