‘Kalumba was actively involved in KYN project’
FORMER Lusaka Mayor, Wilson Kalumba was actively involved in the Know Your Neighbour (KYN) Project concept development, says Matero’s Kapwepwe Ward 25 Councillor, Mwamba Salubusa.
In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Salubusa who is the initiator of the KYN project whose aim is to tackle garbage and crime in the community, recalled how Mr. Kalumba wanted the project team to quickly complete both the narrative report and the budget so that it could be quickly taken to other wards in Lusaka.
“As the Know Your Neighbour team we will soon be making presentations before the board and management at Lusaka City Council (LCC) before doing the same with line ministries which include local government, environment, health and home affairs,´ Mr Salubusa said.
Mr. Mwamba said as a way of honouring the late Mayor the annual Clean and Green Awards in Kapwepwe ward 25 would be named after Mr Kalumba.
He said on February 2, 2018, Mr. Kalumba came to Kapwepwe ward 25 and launched the KYN Project where he even presented the Clean and Green Awards to Twalumba Primary school as the cleanest institution, Lilanda Primary school as the most improved institution and Mr. Levy Simbeye’s residence in Lilanda estates as the cleanest house.
Mr. Mwamba said the 2019 clean and green awards would award 12 houses instead of one as all the twelve zones in the ward would identify a house putting value on cleanliness and a green environment while the institution awards remain two - cleanest and most improved institution.
Mr Kalumba died aged 54 on Tuesday May 15 from a heart condition and was put to rest on Friday.
