Lusaka City Council (LCC) public relations officer Brenda Katongola confirmed the development to the Daily Nation. Ms Katongola said the incident happened yesterday after LCC police conducted a joint operation with state police in the area which was also extended to Downtown Mall and Mtendere compound. Ms Katongola disclosed that one woman stripped naked in protest against their removal. “We conducted an operation yesterday in Downtown, Kamwala and Mtendere and in Kamwala area traders started throwing stones at council and state police officers. A lady stripped naked during their protest against street vending,” Ms Katongola said. The Council says it will not allow individuals to erect illegal structures in the central business district without approval from the local authority. Council Acting Public Relation manager George Sichimba says no one would be spared for engaging in illegalities. Meanwhile Mr. Sichimba has advised people from engaging in illegal vending as the law will catch up with them. He was speaking on I Heard Segment on millennium radio this morning.
