FILTH RETURNS TO LUSAKA CBD

……as residents want military back to restore sanity

-

By NATION REPORTER WE need to uphold the spirit of Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Health Campaign unlike what is obtaining now with filth back on the streets of the Central Business District (CBD), a concerned Lusaka resident has advised.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mwape Gondwe expressed sadness to note that most parts of the CBD were filled with litter.

“We have launched the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign but there is no change in the way the CBD is looking.

“It has liter everywhere, this is very sad especially that we are just from the backdrop of the cholera epidemic,” said Mr Gondwe Mr Gondwe said the only so- lution was to bring back military personnel to the CBD to restore sanity.

“Government is doing everything possible to make sure there is sanity in the city but our mindset is doing completely the opposite.

“Instead of helping them we are busy throwing liter everywhere, it’s very sad the military are the only people who can help us bring sanity in town,” he said.

Mr Gondwe explained that the military were the right people who would help change the mindset of the Zambian people especially Lusaka residents.

Meanwhile independence ward 14 Councilor George Daka said a lot needed to be done to change the mindset of Lusaka residents fond of throwing litter carelessly.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that the CBD is clean and we are really trying as a ward but you know it has to take a lot of work to make sure people’s mindset is changed because we have different backgrounds and we are being raised differently,” Mr Daka said.

The civic leader appealed to the public to avoid throwing garbage anyhow because it was for their own good to avoid the cholera outbreak.
