By NATION REPORTER WE have imparted technical skills in disability-based organisations spread across Africa on how to develop well-grounded strategic development plans for effective delivery of services in inclusive education for children with disabilities, a nongovernmental organisation has said.
Skillshare Governance Support Foundation (SGSF) Governance-Management Relations Technical Advisor, Niza Mushitu said it was important to look at issues of disabilities seriously.
In a statement released to the Daily Nation yesterday, Ms Mushitu says just a week after Zambia hosted the 6th Disability Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Conference in Lusaka at which President Edgar Lungu officiated, a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) scored another feat by training a host of African countries in developing the Africa Regional Strategic Plan for the Lilliane Foundation Inclusion Network (LINC) of Netherlands.
“Last week SGFS conducted a two-day international training course in NGO strategy development which was attended by 17 African and one European country.
“The training was aimed at imparting technical skills in disability-based organisations on how to develop well-grounded strategic development plans for effective delivery of services in inclusive education for children with disabilities,” said Ms Mushitu.
Ms Mushitu added that in March this year, LINC advertised for the services of an Africa-based capacity building organisation to help it develop a five-year Africa Regional Strategy of which SGSF applied adding that following the selection process by the LINC steering committee in the Netherlands, SGSF was picked as the best organisation to conduct the training.
After the close of the training, LINC Chairperson, Greaterman Chivandire praised SGFS for the professional manner in which it conducted the training.
“On behalf of LINC, I ‘am very impressed with the proficiency with which you have conducted this process. Our members are very happy with the delivery of your sessions and the wealth of knowledge you possess in this area.
“This only goes to show that we must believe in our own local expertise and competences as Africans,” said Mr. Chivandire.
Among the countries that attended the training included Cheshire Home Society of Zambia, Togolese Federation of Association for Person with Disabilities and Organisation for Promotion of Human Rights of Uganda among others.
