CIVIL SERVANTS ADVISED TO AVOID GRAFT

-

By NATION REPORTER ALL public service workers should discharge their duties in public interest without com-promise if the fight against corruption is to be won, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Sol-wezi district Community Education officer, Chackson Malunga has said

Speaking during a sensitization programme for Solwezi municipal council workers organised by management yesterday, Mr Malunga explained that public service officers needed to perform their duties in public interest if corruption was to be curbed in the country. “Every public officer is a servant to the peo-ple that they save and that is why in other words we are called civil servants. It is therefore our duty to execute our duties in the interest of the public, “Mr Malunga said.

Mr Malunga called on council personnel to be ambassadors in the fight against corruption in the district through proper land allocation and adhering to the procurement process ac-cording to the Public Procurement Act (PPA) among others.

“Let me also take this opportunity to implore the local authority to promote transparen-cy, integrity, confidentiality, leadership, accountability and fair treatment while dis-charging your duties,” he said. He noted that if left unchecked, corruption in the district and the nation at large has an effect on developmental programmes as it fa-cilitates crime, unequal distribution of wealth and undermines good governance. “Let me further call on the officers not to shy away from reporting any corruption related cases to the commission for the fight against corruption in Zambia to be won,” he added.
