Women critical to sports growth -Mawere
WE are committed to ensure that more women participate in the growth of sports, Minister of sports, youth and child development, Moses Mawere has said
Speaking when he attended the 7th International Working Group (IWG) Conference on Women and Sport in Gaborone, Botswana, Mawere noted that the participation of women in Sport had become an important platform which could be utilized in empowering women and facilitating increased gender parity. Mawere said that the Zambian Government has stepped up its efforts in ensuring that no woman was left behind in Sports development. He added that government was exploring various avenues to ensure increased participation of women in numerous disciplines of Sport. Mawere further explained his Ministry’s commitment to engaging stakeholders in the promotion of Sports development with women taking an active role. “Any avenue which promotes women participation in Sport, government takes that seriously. We do not want to leave our women behind in terms of Sport development. We shall continue sending our women to participate in Sports activities on the regional and international stage” he said. The IWG World Conferences on Women and Sport which are held every four years, attracted participants from 40 countries focused on actions and steps aimed at offering men and women equal opportunities in the sport arena. Meanwhile Mawere has hailed the diplomatic relations the Zambian government shares with Botswana. Speaking when he officiated at the Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana Golf tournament, the Sports Minister commended the efforts of the two countries in their quest to promote wider regional integration through the mega infrastructure development currently being undertaken by the two governments in Kazungula.
