RELEASE CHILUBA’S PROPERTY – CHIEF LUBUNDA

…to end suffering of ex-first family

- By NATION REPORTER

GOVERNMENT should quickly release the property of late former president Frederick Chiluba to end the suffering the former first family is going through,

Chief Lubunda of Chishinga people in Mwense district has said.

Chief Lubunda said it was embarrassing that a son of a former president could be jailed for a simple issue like theft of a mobile phone, a case which could have been sorted out of court since the owner of the phone was his girlfriend.

"As a chief and a relative to the late president, what I can say is that we are hurt as a family and we are calling on government to release all properties left by our relative so that we can take care of ourselves, ‘’ Chief Lubunda said.

Chief Lubunda said Dr. Chiluba was not an ordinary citizen but someone who had sacrificed a lot for the country and, therefore, government should be concerned with what was happening in the family he left behind.

He said the jailing of Frederick Junior should be a wake-up call to government to quickly release the property which belonged to the late president to stop the suffering in the family.

He said most of the problems and the suffering in the family emanated from political persecution suffered by the former president after he left office.

"Dr. Chiluba was a president of this country and so as a family we feel if we have problems in accessing the property he left behind, government should be able to come in and render help and that's the main reason why we want to meet President Edgar Lungu so that we can explain to him the happening in the family," he said.

Another relative, John Ngosa said because of the difficulties and suffering in the family, many dependants of the former president had become destitutes.

He urged government to come to the aid of the family as a payback for what the late president did for the country's social and economic development.

Mr. Ngosa also called on President Lungu to consider pardoning Fredrick Chiluba Jnr.
