12 Schools upgraded to secondary level in Kitwe

-

TWELVE Primary schools in Kitwe have been upgraded to Secondary schools this year and construction has already commenced using locally generated resources,' Kitwe District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Allan Kaoma has said.

Mr Kaoma said the idea to upgrade primary schools to secondary level was to increase high school places and also reduce the teacher-to-pupil ratio which has been very high.

He said some of the schools which had been up-graded were Bulangililo, Machona Mama Monty, Twashuka, Kakolo, Maposa, Miseshi, Lulamba, Natwange, Valley View, Luangwa, Garneton and Wesley Nyirenda.

He said this during a tour of some schools in the city.

" The issue of distance to school will also be sorted out. We have schools in the outskirts of the city which only go as far as grade nine and when a child passes Grade nine, he has to go to a school which provides senior secondary school elsewhere. So if nearby schools are upgraded, then the issue of distances is sorted out," Mr Kaoma said.

Mr Kaoma said the PTA and management at Bulangililo Secondary School had come up with the project of construction of a primary school so that the secondary school would only accommodate senior secondary grades from Grade 10 t o 12.

Mr Kaoma said once the construction of Bulangililo primary school was completed, it would accommodate all the junior grades starting from grade one to grade nine. " Bulangililo primary school will cater for all junior grades, leaving the Secondary school to cater for only senior grades from Grade 10 to 12. S this is the logic behind constructing that primary school.
