NKANA SEEK REDEMPTION

- By SPORTS REPORTER

TWELVE time league winners, Nkana Football Club, will this afternoon seek redemption when they host neighbors Kitwe United in a local derby to be played at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Nkana will seek to bounce back from two defeats and one draw recorded from the last three league fixtures.

The Beston Chambeshi led side were humbled 2-1 by Green Buffaloes and were held to a 2-2 draw by Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy before succumbing to 1-0 defeat to Zanaco at Nkana Stadium last Wednesday.

Despite having a poor record of losing at Nkana Stadium, Nkana’s assistant coach, Manfred Chabinga says his team is still in contention for the league title.

Speaking in an interview in Kitwe, Chabinga noted that Nkana will seek a positive result when they host a Kitwe United side that has performed fairly since the league kicked off in March.

“The overall performance of the boys is not bad. We are playing well, it is just that we are not utilizing our chances and that is the problem we need to resolve. We are still in contention for the title, we just need to put our house in order. Our expectations are very high but we need to improve as we take on Kitwe United,” Chabinga said.

Meanwhile after moving to third on the log table with a 1-0 beating of Kalampa, last year’s league runners up, Zanaco will seek to maintain their perfect run when they host Kabwe Warriors at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

With the absence of head coach, Numba Mumamba who is with the national team preparing for the COSAFA Championship kicking off tomorrow, assistant coach Dabid Chilufya will oversee things at Sunset Stadium.

Chilufya said Zanaco had recorded massive improvement and was focusing on qualifying for Zambia’s only cup competition, the Barclays cup.

“We have been struggling but now the team is doing well from the last two games we have played and we have chances to qualify for the Barclays cup though the league is tough this year,” Chilufya said.

Meanwhile Kabwe Warriors will target to maintain their perfect run having beaten Lumwana Radiants 3-1 in their last league fixture.

In other fixture Power Dynamos host Green Eagles at Arthur Davies Stadium while league leaders Green Buffaloes visit North Western Province for a date with Lumwana Radiants.

At Woodlands Stadium, National Assembly host Nakambala Leopards while Lusaka Dynamos will host Nchanga Rangers.

Forest Rangers date Nkwazi and Buildcon host Red arrows with Napsa Stars taking on struggling New Monze Swallows.

Defending champions ZESCO United host rejuvenated Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy who held Nkana to a 2-2 stalemate in their last league fixture.
