‘Abandoned’ old man rescued

- By NATION REPORTER

JEREMIAH Sikazinga, the 80-yearold man of Siavonga district who was separated from his family for more than six years is finally set to be reunited with his people.

Siavonga district commissioner, Lovemore Kanyama told the Daily Nation that his messengers had finally managed to trace Mr Sikazinga’s family members.

Mr Kanyama said that it was funny that one of the relatives worked for Siavonga Town Council, while the other was traced from one of the townships within the district when the old man had been under government care in the same area for over 6 years.

He said that another relative was at one of the villages around Chirundu district.

Mr Kanyama said that his office had been in constant contact with all the old man’s relatives and that a meeting had been set to discuss the way forward.

“We managed to trace the family of Mr Sikazinga and we have been in constant contact with them. Actually one of them works for our town council and the other stays in Micho compound here in Siavonga. One also was traced at one of the villages in Chirundu,” he said.

Mr Kanyama said that government’s plan was to take Mr Sikazinga to the old people’s home in Livingstone if the family would agree.

He said that government would also continue supporting the old man, where possible.

Earlier, Mr Kanyama said that his office was trying by all means to put Mr Sikazinga on Social Cash Transfer.

He explained that the delays to put Mr Sikazinga on the Social Cash transfer programme were as a result of the old man not having a National Registration Card.
