Clean-up exercise for all

- By NATION REPORTER

THE Ndola City Council has called on all residents and business houses to join in the clean-up campaign tomorrow.

Council public relations manager Tilyenji Mwanza said the clean-up exercise was in line with the recent re-launch of the `Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign` by President Edgar Lungu last month.

She said the exercise was a response to directive that every last Saturday of the month citizens and businesses should close their premises and clean their surroundings.

"The City of Ndola will kick start this campaign with a clean- ing exercise of Chisokone Road in the Central Business District led by the Provincial Minister Japhen Mwakalombe, acting Permanent Secretary, the District Commissioner, the Deputy Mayor, acting Town Clerk and all councillors.

"The Ndola City Council would like to implore all, especially business owners to take part in the cleaning exercise. We would also like to send an earnest appeal to business owners to suspend business operations during the under signed hours and take part in the cleaning exercise, " she said.

Ms Mwanza said the council would mobilise resources including trucks, tools and cleaning adhesives during the cleanup exercise from all stakeholders to help clean up the city.

The exercise, she said, would be replicated in all wards spearheaded by the civic leaders to ensure that premises in their wards had painted buildings, slashed grass and landscaping of individual homes and business premises.

Ms Mwanza warned the street vendors and roadside dealers who had started returning to the streets to get back to their designated trading places or face legal consequences.
