Two councillors dump UPND for PF
TWO UPND Councillors in North Western Province have resigned and defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) with immediate effect. This comes barely a month after former Kangwena ward councillor, Godfrey Safali resigned and ditched the opposition party. Those that have resigned are Titus Kapindula for Liyovu ward in Zambezi district and Binwell Kasauntu of Kanyama ward in Mwinilunga district. The two councillors said they had resigned from the UPND because they wanted to work with the party in power to deliver development in their areas. Mr Kasauntu said he could not continue to work with the UPND because the leadership was allegedly detached from the people in the area. And Mr Kapindula cited lack of good and visionary leadership, proper direction, capacity to deliver development and inclusiveness among other things as reasons for ditching the UPND. And receiving the two councillors, PF North western Province chairperson, Jackson Kungo said the current defections were a sign that the PF was a progressive party. Mr Kungo announced that more defections should be expected in the province as the PF was the only attractive party to belong to adding that the development the party promised was visible for all to see in the province and the nation as a whole. “The PF party has won the hearts of the people of North Western Province hence the rapid increase in the number of defectors and new members,’’ he said. He urged the two councillors to feel free and participate in all party activities. “Let me also implore all old members to continue embracing new members because politics is about numbers,’’ he added.
