WORLD VISION TO DRILL 24 BOREHOLES IN ISOKA
WORLD Vision Zambia will drill 24 boreholes to cost US$110,000 (more than K1, 100,000) in Isoka district of Muchinga Province, Luswepo Area Development Programme (ADP) area manager Rita Mapala said on Monday.
Ms Mapala named Kanteshya, Kalungu, Nachisungu and Londamaka as some of the rural communities where the 24 boreholes would be drilled.
Ms Mapala was speaking when she paid a courtesy call on Isoka District Commissioner Evenwell Mutambo to introduce the contractor engaged to drill the boreholes in Isoka rural.
‘’As World Vision, Luswepo Area development programme will be drilling 24 boreholes in our catchment areas as a way of improving access to safe and clean water for our people.’’ Ms Mapala said.
She said the 24 boreholes would be drilled at schools, health posts, and in communities within the programme’s catchment areas. ‘’These boreholes will cost US $110, 000 and will be drilled in schools, health posts and villages within our catchment areas. ‘’ Ms Mapala said.
And speaking at the same occasion, Isoka district administrative officer Mulenga Yamishi praised non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the area for supplementing government development efforts.
Speaking on behalf of Isoka district commissioner Evenwell Mutambo, Mr Yamishi said the NGOs deserved praise for strengthening partnership with government in poverty alleviation efforts in rural areas.
Mr Yamishi said the help by World Vision Luswepo-Area Development Project to drill the boreholes was timely because the rural communities needed clean and safe drinking water.
He said water and good hygiene practices played a vital role in preventing diarrhoea diseases.
He noted that World Vision Zambia had worked well with the Education sector and the villages surrounding schools through its Water Sanitation and Hygiene Education (WASH) programme.
Mr Yamani also said Faith Based Organisations (FBO) were currently assisting the government in relief food distribution in Mpandwa and Muyeleka hunger stricken areas of Isoka.
Meanwhile, Nachisungu village headman thanked World Vision and the government for the warm relationship existing between donors and government of Zambia.
‘’We are grateful to World Vision Luswepo area development programme for coming to the aid of the people by providing boreholes to Nachisungu and other communities; people here cover long distances to access water.’’ Headman Nachisungu said
He said the funding for the drilling of the 24 boreholes was timely to alleviate the suffering of people in his area who walked long distance to fetch water.
He appealed to other donors to take development projects to Isoka to alleviate the suffering of the people in the district.
