- By NATION REPORTER

A CONRTACT worth K13.4 million has been awarded to Juran for water supply to 10,000 people in Makululu to mitigate water shortages in the sprawling township in Kabwe, Lukanga Water and Sewerge Company (LgWSC) managing director Mushani Kapusana said in Kabwe yesterday.

Speaking when Local Government Minister Dr Dennis Wanchingwa paid a courtesy call on Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga who was represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary Felix Mangw’ato, Mr Kapusana said Juran, the contractor, had already moved on site and was awaiting funding from government to start the project.

“We have been assured by the ministry that they are looking into the issue of funding and as soon as the funds are released, we will be ready to commerce the project," Mr Kapusana said.

He said laying the rising main pipe line into the centre of Makululu township where a 350-cubic metre water tank would be placed would form a major part of the project.

The project would also involve procuring three borehole pumps and laying a new water supply line aimed at boosting water supply to one of the treatment plants, he said.

He said he project would enable LgWSC to extend water provision to more people by setting up five water kiosks and individual connections in a bid to improve water supply in the huge township.

Dr Wanchinga said government was committed to supplying quality water to communities throughout the country, and that the Makululu water supply project was one of the biggest so far.

"Makululu Water Supply Project is important and is one of the biggest project in the ministry aimed at improving quality water supply in the area," Dr Mwanchinga said.

Dr Mwanchinga is in Central Province on tour of the water projects and to appreciate the challenges LgWSC is facing.
