ZRA on-line platform yields 56 mineral export permits

-

By BUSINESS REPORTER WE have so far granted 56 mineral export permits through online platform rolled out on March 15, 2018, Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Corporate Communications Manager, Topsy Sikalinda has disclosed.

Mr Sikalinda further disclosed that as of May 15, 2018, 72 applications for export permits had been made, of which 56 had been granted and 16 applications were at various stages of processing.

Mr Sikalinda said the target was to have all the base and precious metals dealers migrated to the online reporting and export permitting system by mid–July 2018.

He emphasised in an interview that from March 15, 2018, no manual application for permits to export the said mineral products were allowed.

“All the 12 largest mining and mineral processing companies dealing in Base and Precious metals have been migrated to full-time online mineral production reporting since January 1 2018.

“The online mineral export permitting module was also rolled-out on March 15 2018 after the successful interfacing of the Mineral Output Statistical Evaluation System (MOSES system) with the Mining Cadaster (MCAS) in the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, for all exports of Copper, Cobalt and Precious Metals,” he said.

Mr Sikalinda added that compliance in the reporting by the 12 mines was currently being followed up which resulted in the publication of the 1st quarter compliance status report in the national print media on May 16 2018.

He explained that the project allowed Government to have easy access to data from all mining companies related to production and export.

“Expected increase in government revenue through access to accurate and verifiable data from the mining companies, and additionally in the revenue fees paid in the export permits,” Mr Sikalinda said.
