‘We’re capable of hosting international championships’
By SPORTS REPORTER ZAMBIA has facilities to host the International Handball Federation (IHF) Continental boy’s championship if mandated to do so, Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) president Victor Banda has observed
According to HAZ the IHF in partnership with the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) have set this August as the date for the continental tournament for both under -17 and under-20, and will choose the hosts from the eight qualified countries.
The eight countries are Nigeria, Senegal, Guniea, Kenya, Rwanda, Madagascar, Cameroon and Zambia.
Banda said Zambia was capable of hosting a successful tournament of such magnitude with the blessing from the ministry of Sports.
“IHF have announced that the continental tournament will be held in the first week of August. It will however pick the hosts from the countries that qualified to compete in the tournament.
“In a case that we are mandated to host the event, Zambia has the facilities and we just need a blessing from the Ministry of Sports,” he said.
He said the two teams were preparing well for the tournament to ensure they emerged winners and qualify to the IHF World Championship.
He urged the U-17 and U-20 players to work extra hard to bring glory to Zambia at the IHF continental.
