Know Your Neighbour Day intensifies

-

By NATION REPORTER THE Know Your Neighbour Day (KYN) will be held less than a week after the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign (KZCGHC), says Kapwepwe Ward 25 councillor in Matero Constituency, Mwamba Salubusa.

Mr Salubusa introduced the (KYN) campaign in February this year to rid his ward of indiscriminate waste disposal and high crime rate.

The launch also followed the ritual murders which shocked the nation and the high crime rate and illegal dumping of garbage which were the biggest challenges in the ward. In a statement released to the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Salubusa said the KYN would be used to check on the impact of the last Saturday of the month.

Mr. Salubusa added that apart from making sure that everyone got involved in waste management, crime prevention and good governance related issues, the KYN Day would also be a reminder to highlight the importance of neighbourliness.

“It will remain our tradition to come together as a ward and clean our community as a team on a last Saturday every month in line with the Keep Zambia Clean and Green Campaign whilst keeping our traditional first Friday every month as our Know Your Neighbour Day,” said Mr Salubusa

He also expressed gratitude to all residents of his ward who participated in the KZCGHC last Saturday.

‘‘I therefore take this opportunity to appeal to all residents of Kapwepwe Ward 25 to get involved in the Keep Zambia Clean and Green Campaign as well as the Know Your Neighbor Days as both days are designed to put value on a safe and clean environment,’’ he said.

Mr. Salubusa said it was gratifying that on the last Saturday of May, the community came together and cleaned their surrounding adding that on the first Friday of June next week, they would measure the impact of Saturdays’ activities by checking on how people and institutions were upholding the Statutory Instrument number 12 of 2018 as far as waste management is concerned.

Every last Saturday of the month all citizens are expected to take part in cleaning and the planting of trees following the relaunch of the KZCGHC by President Edgar Lungu.
