PARASTATAL COMPANIES SHOULD EMBRACE HAVING SPORTS COMPLEX FOR ITS WORKERS

WHEN we got independence in 1964 our first president had to ensure that all parastatal companies setup sports complex and each parastatal had sports complex. All mine companies , Zambia Railways, Zambia State Insurance, ZNPF, Zanaco etc had sports com- plex in order for them to have their employees and families pass time after work. It was a wonderful setup. Then there was less drinking of alcohol like the present day where sports complex have been sold.

This is pathetic and our present children have resorted to drinking as many sports complex are non functional. From a long time ago the following parastatals have had sports complex where their employees could go with their families to relax . Theses are Zambia National Airports corporation, Zamtel, Barclays bank of Zambia, Zampost etc. We wonder what motivation is there where they can not even afford to have a netball team, football team, basket team, table tennis but management concentrate on maximising on their profits.

This should not be tolerated in Zambia . Let Management of every parastatal have sports complex where their employees could go and exercise and to prevent alcohol abuse by the employees and children.

Could the Minister of Sports intervene by advising all paratstatals and other corporate organisations to encourage them on the need being active in sports.

We shall give an example of Zambia National Airports which has been in existence for some time now without any football even at amateur level. Are we serious ? Concerned citizen
