UPND CONTINUES LOSING COUNCILLORS

-

UPND supporters By NATION REPORTER UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Kanongesha ward councilor in Mwinilunga district Charles Makimba has resigned to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

This is barely a week after two other councilors in Zambezi’s Liyovu and Mwinilunga’s Kanyama wards resigned respectively.

Tendering his resignation letter yesterday, Mr Makimba cited lack of service delivery by virtue of him being an opposition councilor.

He said he has come to the realization that as an opposition civic leader there was nothing he could achieve for the people in the area.

‘’To this effect, I decided to resign as councilor for Kanongesha ward with immediate effect,’’ he said.

Mr Makimba said he wants to work with the government in power in order to deliver development to Kanongesha.

And PF North western province chairperson Jackson Kungo said the continued resignation of UPND councilors in the province was a clear indication that the opposition has lost touch with the people.

Mr Kungo said although the UPND leadership boasts of enjoying support of the electorate in the region, the opposition party was finished.

‘’People have realised that they cannot continue belonging to a party that has no direction and their only hope (electorate) is the PF which is power,’’ Mr Kungo said.

He said the PF has become attractive and that is why UPND councilors were resigning and joining the ruling party.

He urged the former councilor to feel free and work with all party structures in the region.

But efforts to contact UPND provincial chairperson Col Grandson Katambi proved futile by press time.
