Embrace us pray for us, Lungu implores church

- By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has asked the church to continue embracing and praying for politicians to live Christian lives.

Speaking when he attended a church service at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Chikondano sub-congregation in Chilanga district yesterday, President Lungu said the church should embrace all politicians who come to congregate with them and teach them to live Christian lives.

“The church should not abandon politicians. As politicians, we look to the church to bring Christ into our midst so that we begin to encompass Christian values.

“The Christian community, believers should always be ready to receive these people who come and knock at your doors whether they come to look for votes or not because who knows, it could be their opportunity to change,” President Lungu said.

President Lungu added, “pray for us as we go to dialogue so that we speak from our hearts.”

The Head of state also asked the church to pray for those with “political misfortune”.

“Help even those who are coming to church hoping their political fortunes can be enhanced. Some of them have been trying 5,6 and 7 times to go to State House but failed. Receive them and tell them to be humble,” he said.

And President Lungu jokingly declared having received a gift in form of the Bible from the church to avoid being accused of being corrupt.

Meanwhile, UCZ Matero consistory chairperson Rev. Samuel Mwambazi thanked the President for finding time to congregate with them. Rev. Mwambazi who presented the Bible as a gift to the Head of state said the church was impressed with Mr Lungu’s humbleness. Rev. Mwambazi said the church has noted with happiness President Lungu’s commitment towards preaching peace and unity in the country.

He wished the President good health and God’s guidance as he governs the country.
