More join Lusaka mayoral race

-

By NATION REPORTER The list of people eyeing the Lusaka Mayoral elections has grown with Green Lake Zambia Limited chief executive officer Engineer Kumbukilani Phiri expressing interest to contest as executive mayor of the City of Lusaka, saying he has had the conviction that he would a better job.

Others interested include Economic Equity Party leader, Chilufya Tayali, and PF councillor Christopher Shakafuswa who has also asked the Constitutional Court to make a ruling on whether he was eligible to contest the mayoral election as a sitting councillor.

Eng. Phiri, who trained and worked in China for a decade, said he was convinced that selflessness, hard work, patriotism, consultation and transfer of shared experiences was what Lusaka needed to address the challenges the city was facing as opposed to vague promises which were practically impossible to implement.

Speaking to the Daily Nation yesterday, Eng. Phiri said he believed in excellence stemming from good quality education which he was privileged to receive and that in order to realise an educated Zambia, he had paid special attention to motivating learners and helping them to achieve their goals.

“I have always believed that those who have been privileged in society should strive to become role models to the younger generation. It is out of this conviction I always try to give back to the community through various means such as holding career talks with high school students and holding of prize giving ceremonies to encourage hard-work among the pupils and students in colleges,” Eng. Phiri said.
