FREEDOM FIGHTER MPUNDU MUTEMBO DESERVES GOVT SUPPORT
Dear Editor THE freedom fighter, Mpundu Mutembo aged 82 is the man in the freedom statue mounted on Independence Avenue in the Kamwala trading area opposite Government Complex. The independence history of Zambia is incomplete without the name Mpundu Mutembo.
This is because he is one of the notable gallant men and women who fought tirelessly for the peace and unity we are enjoying. The first republican President Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, late Arthur Wina, late Nalumino Mundia, late Betty Kaunda who was the wife of Dr. Kaunda and Mama Chibesa Kankasa are some of the freedom fighters who sacrificed a lot for the independence of our country.
However, my emphasis is on Mr. Mutembo, the man who did a lot for the liberation of our country. Mr. Mutembo is a hero to whom young men and women should look up to . This is be- cause of the significant role he played.
It is very unfortunate that the man who sacrificed a lot for mother Zambia is leading a miserable life not befitting the freedom fighter. Bestowing insignia on our gallant freedom fighters during occasions such as Africa Freedom Day and Independence Day is not enough. In view of the above, I earnestly appeal to the Government and President Edgar Lungu to consider supporting Mr. Mutembo financially and materially. The surviving freedom fighter deserves Government support. It is not good to appreciate people when they die.
