- By SIMON MUNTEMBA in Lukulu, Western Province.

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has assured the people of Lukulu and Mitete districts in Western province that government will soon construct the long-awaited Lukulu-Katunda-Watopa road. And President Lungu also expressed happiness that the construction of Lukulu district hospital was complete and that the district had been connected to the national electricity grid as the Patriotic Front had promised during election campaigns. The President said this when he paid a courtesy call on Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko of the Lozi people in Lukulu district. Mr Lungu said his administration would not look at tribe or region when developing Zambia because he had a national character. Responding to the traditional leader who appealed to him to consider upgrading the Lukulu, Katunda-Watopa road, Mr Lungu said the road would be worked on soon. “I promise that I will sit down with my ministers to quicken the process of upgrading the Lukulu, Katunda-Watopa road,” Mr Lungu said. President Lungu, who thanked Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko for the warm reception, said he was on tour of duty to appreciate the challenges the people were facing in the region and to inspect development projects, interact with the people, listen to and attend to their concerns. He said as a President of all Zambians, he was there to work and take development to the people regardless of tribe and region. He said he had noted all the problems in Lukulu more especially the bad roads. It was time to put politics aside and work and that government was committed to improving the welfare of the people of Lukulu and Mitete districts, he said. President Lungu said he was happy that the construction of the first ever district hospital in Lukulu was completed and the area connected to the national electricity grid. And Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko thanked the President for finding time to visit the district. The Senior Chief pledged total support to President Lungu’s government in developing the district. And addressing hundreds of Lukulu residents and PF supporters who gathered at Lukulu Air Strip to welcome him, President Lungu said he was in the district to assure the people that as their servant, he would work for them. President Lungu also said he believed in collective wisdom. He said his government was ready to work with anyone who was willing to develop the area, adding that time for politicking was gone. President Lungu toured Lukulu District Hospital, Lukulu Secondary Boarding School and the palace for Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko, which is still under construction. Earlier at around 09:00 hours, President Lungu toured a citizens economic empowerment commission (CEEC) funded Adastra fruit juice processors plant in Mongu district, where he said he was impressed with the project.
