Residents happy with Kanyama clinic upgrade

-

UPGRADING of Kanyama clinic into a level one hospital is a very good idea by government as it will help decongest University Teaching Hospital (UTH), says a concerned resident of Kanyama Compound, Memory Mweemba.

Ms Mweemba’s comments come in the work of alleged sluggish operations at Kanyama clinic and numerous referral cases to UTH.

In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Ms Mweemba noted that once the expansion works were completed, the facility would also cater for more admissions.

“It will mean that bed spaces will increase with more admissions unlike now where most of the cases are referred to UTH.Some people do not have enough money to go to UTH because of their status in society,” said Ms Mweemba

Another resident, Mary Kaunda expressed happiness that government had embarked on the project to upgrade the health facility to a level one hospital.

“This is a welcome development because members of the community are faced with a number of challenges to access medical care,” said Ms Kaunda.

Ms Kaunda noted that one of the major challenges residents faced was lack of money for transport when refereed to UTH.

And George Yamachaka also a resident in the area was hopeful that once the construction was complete the health facility will not have problems of long queues which was resulting in very few patients being attended to.
