WOMAN, GRANDCHILD DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT

A WOMAN and her grandson have died after being hit by a speeding vehicle while another woman has sustained serious injuries.
North western province commissioner of police +udson 1amachila has confirmed the incident in a statement released to the Daily Nation yesterday.
Mr 1amachila identified the victims as Grace Mulenga aged 54 and her two year grandson.
Mr Namachila said the incident occurred on Tuesday around 18:30 hours along Independence Avenue at Kyawama market in Solwezi district.
He explained that Charles Zakeo aged 41 of Messengers compound whilst driving a Toyota Corolla registration number BAD 8852 hit a pedestrian identified as (li]abeth Chibamba aged 22 who sustained serious injuries.
‘’And in the process of running away from the scene of accident, the driver sped off and hit another pedestrian Grace Mulenga aged 54 who was carrying her two year old grandchild on her back,’’ Mr Namachila said.
He said the two (grandmother and the child) sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
He said the driver has since been arrested, and charged with Causing death by dangerous driving contrary to section 161 (1) of the Road 7raffic Act 1o 11 of 2002 and will appear in court soon.
‘’While the bodies of the deceased persons are deposited in Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem,’’ he added.
