Mwembeshi health centres now white elephants

-

By LINDA SOKO TEMBO TWO health posts in Mwembeshi ward 27 have been turned into white elephants because they are not yet operational from the time contractors completed them and handed them over to the DistUiFt +ealth 2ffiFe in

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mwembeshi ward 27 councilor Kelvin Kaunda expressed concern that two of the health posts in his ward were not yet operational despite the two projects one in Barlastone and SOS being completed close to two years ago.

Mr Kaunda wondered if the two health posts that were completed in 2016 were not operational in the urban area what more in the rural and remote places.

The councilor said he had been appealing to the Ministry of +ealth to direct the office bearers responsible to operationalize the facilities and ensure that they are utilized so that the services could be brought close to the people like they had promised but nothing was done.

“The ministry of Health should help us to ensure that the facility is operational because the infrastructure in Barlastone and SOS is now being run down. When things are not being used the depreciation is higher than when some- thing is in use and the chances of vandalism are low.

“If it can take this long for facilities in the urban areas to open what do we expect for those that have been put up in rural areas,” Mr Kaunda said.

The civic leader explained that as a ward they were happy that government did their best by putting up the facilities adding that it was not good enough that they had been completed but not operationalized.

Mr Kunda said having the facilities open will help the people have easy access to health services in the two areas.
