Dr Chilufya’s comment comes in the wake of feelings of joy among Chawama residents over the upgrading of Chawama clinic to first level one hospital.

“Government will this year construct a health facility in Msisi compound in Nkoloma Ward One so as to cater the people in the area and by doing so that will reduce the distance regards to expectant mothers,” said Dr Chilufya.

And in separate interviews with the Daily Nation, Chawama residents have expressed happiness over the upgrading of the health facility.

One of the residents, Naomi Mweemba said Chawama residents had been lacking quality health care for a long time.

Ms Mweemba said this will also see a reduction in congestion at the clinic because the hospital will have high quality medical equipments.

Another resident Peggy Pandali said once the hospital is complete it will contribute to achieving universal health coverage in communities. Ms Pandali added that people will now have access to basic health services just at their door step without covering a long distance.

She thanked President Edgar Lungu for paying much attention to the health sector through upgrading health facilities.

“Here in Chawama we face a lot of challenges each time we come to seek medical attention due to the massive population and lack of adequate health infrastructure is a major challenge.

“With medical personnel we have no problem because we have enough manpower, but they fail to execute their duties diligently due to overcrowded patients seeking medication,” said Ms Pandali.
