Explain the Kenya trip, Nkombo challenged
GARRY Nkombo must explain and give concrete reasons why his committee chose to travel to Kenya to GUaZ lessons IUom the ¿ght against corruption when that country is among the worst in Africa, failure to which they must refund all the expenses, \ouths haYe GemanGeG
Youth in Action for Sustainable Development (YASD) programmes manager Zebedy Lukwesa yesterday told the Daily Nation that Mr Nkombo, who has consistently attacked Government over corruption, must explain what the committee learnt from Kenya which was worth spending money on.
Mr Lukwesa said his organisation was appalled by the committee’s choice of Kenya as a destination from which it could draw lessons to fight corruption when there were better countries in Africa which had made tremendous progress in stamping out the vice.
He said members of the committee should refund the money they used for the Kenya trip if they fail to give satisfactory answers over their undertaking adding that the committee had embarrassed Zambia to the rest of the world for making such a useless trip which Kenyan lawmakers themselves described as a joke.
“Mr Nkombo projects himself as an ardent fighter against corruption and has been vocal in attacking Government at any given opportunity but he decided to lead a delegation to go and learn about the effective ways of combating corruption from the third most corrupt country in Africa. Isn’t this a joke?
“What Mr Nkombo and group must know is that they went to Kenya at our expense as Zambians and we want to know what lessons they drew from the trip and further justify whether such a trip was worth undertaking.
“If they fail to do so, they must refund the money they used because there was no logic in going there,” Mr Lukwesa demanded.
Kenya has been embroiled in a spate of mind-boggling corruption scandals with the latest being a KSh 6.3 billion scam at the .enya (lectricity 7ransmission Company (Ketraco)
According to the 7ransparency ,nternational 7, Global &orruption Barometer, Kenya is rated the third most corrupt country and in Africa, only beaten by Sierra Leon and Liberia which are ranked first and second respectively.
