Over 30 file mayoral nominations under 7-
Mr. Muchemwa brought business around the Town centre to a temporal halt as his supporters from Inter-City, Lima Tower, and City Market bus stations meandered through town, honking and singing songs of praise as he headed for the district office where he successfully filed in before going to the party secretariat to complete the process.
Traffic on Lumumba road came to a standstill as a number of buses carrying his supporters made for the secretariat, most of which remained outside the offices as they could not fit in the premises due to the huge numbers that accompanied him.
Youths from the grassroots representing UNZA and NIPA, Organised Vendors and Traders of Lusaka Province also formed part of the battalion that accompanied him.
And addressing the hundreds of supporters after filing his nomination, Mr. Muchemwa called on them to remain calm as they await the party's central committee to nominate a suitable candidate.
He said as a loyal member of the party, he will respect the decision of the central committee on its choice of the candidate that will represent the party.
"The grassroots represents a lot of people that already know me and everyone is there to see. I will take whatever decision that the NCC and the President decides but the numbers speak volumes about what kind of a person people in Lusaka want," Mr. Muchemwa said.
Among the candidates that successfully filed in include “prodigal son” Mulenga Sata who re-joined the PF in the morning yesterday, former Matero MP Miles Sampa, Brian Hapunda, Christopher Shakafuswa, and Trevor Ng’andu, commonly known as Uncle T, the owner of Dallas City in Kabwata.
Others are Green Lake Zambia Limited proprietor Kumbukilani Phiri, PF fundamentalist Gift Kasaro, deputy mayor Chilando Chitangala, and Brian Mapulanga, former mayor Daniel Chisenga, Ceasar Banda, and Munir Zulu, among others.
