POLICE ROAD BLOCKS ARE BACK IN LUSAKA

- Dear Editor, Steven Mwape

IT IS all very well for the Inspector General of Police Mr. Kanganja to tour the Copperbelt in the campaign against criminal gangs, why doesn’t he also drive around Lusaka to see the extortionist tactics of his traffic officers Zho have taNen to mounting road blocks in residential areas to Àeece money from hapless motorists.

They are not even helpful in controlling unruly minibus drivers who are causing havoc on the Lumumba road which is being redeveloped.

These lunatics are totally oblivious to the developments and drive at breakneck speed blocking oncoming traffic thereby causing congestion and gridlock that is totally unnecessary.

The Avic traffic controllers have no chance against these mini bus drivers who all seem possessed as they drive in convoys disregarding all traffic rules.

Meanwhile our traffic officers are busy in town hiding behind tree and shrubs to jump on motorists from whom they demand money.

The latest innovation are speed traps. These are set up on roads which have no speed indication signs.

It is a real circus which only the top police command can stop, what with all the stories that senior officers share in the money that junior officers collect.

Something must be done about these traffic who all now seem to own cars from ill-gotten wealth.
