- By NATION REPORTER

The demise of Minister of Gender, Ms. Victoria Kalima is a blow to the nation. However, we are comforted by the fact that, she leaves behind a legacy worth championing, Chongwe deputy mayor, Mr. Evans M’hambi has said.

Mr. M’hambi said this in an interview with the Daily Nation. “It is with sadness that we learnt of the passing on of one of our biggest and most carougeous voices in both the political and social life of our country. Mama Kalima was a bold woman who leaves behind a legacy of a carougeous approach to the role of women in leadership. She must be remembered for being very bold in her articulation of issues in parliament. She gave women the encouragement and motivation to enter politics against the general perception that, the trade was a man’s game. She an inspiration to women and an example to women leaders” he said. Ms. M’hambi paid tribute to Ms. .alima¶s contribution to the fight against early marriages and abuse of the girl child. “She will forever live there through her tireless efforts and massive contribution of the many changes in upholding the rights of the girl child. We have been robbed of an advocate for the girl child. I therefore urge the women citizens to emulate her in taking bold steps in fighting against bad vices that discriminate against girls and women,” he emphasised. Meanwhile, Chongwe constituency youth vice treasurer, Ms. Constance Chumbwe has described Ms. Victoria Kalima as a legend in the fight for gender eTuality. ³ ,t is a big loss to the female folk who had her for a model. We are deeply at loss,” she lamented. Ms. Chumbwe conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the Patriotic Front for the untimely death of the voice of the voiceless. “This misfortune is untimely as it comes at a time when we are advocating for a 50/50 opportunity in leadership. This is a great loss, but God will surely comfort us even as we mourn. May her soul rest in peace” she said.
