Lungu hails muslims on eid festival

- By NATION REPORTER

THE Muslim community in Zambia plays an important and unique role in advancing the cause of humanity through their broad range of religious and charity work, says President Edgar Lungu

In a congratulatory message to the Muslim community in Zambia on the occasion of the holy festival of Eid Mubarak which marks the end of the month of Ramadan, President Lungu emphasized that Zambia which is predominantly Christian was at peace with other religions.

“We are a nation of faith which is predominantly Christian but proudly at peace with many other religions. Within this diversity, Zambia has distinguished itself as a tolerant society across various facets of life. I ‘am hopeful that we can do more to entrench this culture as a way of life. Religion must unite us and not divide us.

“I therefore use this opportunity to send my heartfelt greetings to the Muslim community here and abroad as they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. I also wish to encourage you to use this sol- emn period to reflect on your individual and collective spiritual responsibilities and help build bridges not just within the Muslim faith but across other religions,” President Lungu said. President Lungu added: “I can therefore urge our faith leaders to do more to promote national unity. Let me once again, on behalf of my government and the nation at large, wish all Muslim faithful a happy Eid Mubarak”. This is contained in a statement issued to the Daily Nation yesterday by Presidential spokesperson Amos Chanda.
