You’re illegal settlers, farmers told
FARMERS at Imisaka in Milemu area in Ndola are illegal settlers, District Commissioner, George Chisulo has said.
The farmers last month accused Ndola residents who have been displaced from the land where government is constructing the new Ndola international airport of wanting to chase them from their land.
The farmers had threatened violence towards the displaced residents if they continued asking them to vacate the land.
But Ndola District Commissioner, George Chisulo said the complainants were illegal settlers because they did not have legal documents for the land they had been farming on.
Canon Chisulo disclosed that government would give 2 hectares of land to each farmer of Imisaka in Milemu area who were found at the land which government had given to the displaced residents.
Mr Chisulo said government was giving them the land because it wanted them to have legal documents.
He further advised the farmers to comply with government’s decision of moving them to another land.
Meanwhile the Ndola DC advised traders who were chased from the farmers market at Dolla Hill Mall to go and do their businesses at designated markets.
He said government could not force Dolla Hill Mall management to give the traders back the trading place because the mall was private business.
