Luapula chiefs back govt

- By NATION REPORTER

LUAPULA Chiefs have advised the Zambian people not to allow themselves to be duped by political groups inciting rebellion against the government.

And the Lunga people of Luapula Province are set to hold their celebrated Musubilwa Mpemba Traditional Ceremony next weekend to be preceded by a fundraising dinner tonight.

Speaking on behalf of the Luapula chiefs, Senior Chief Mushota of Kawambwa said acting together as traditional leaders, all chiefs have pledged their loyalty to the current government for national development.

He said the province stands with the leadership of President Edgar Lung in delivering the much needed development for the people of Luapula and the rest of the country.

fiThe chiefs from different chiefdoms including myself have many things in common and generally, we plan and act together not only on traditional matters but also on other issues including development.

fiSome mediocre small political groups are trying to entice the people, it is true, but we know how development can be attained in the province as a whole and that is why we plan together. Luapula stands to develop better with President Lungu,fl he said.

Senior Chief Mushota was speaking at a press briefing flanked by five Lunga chiefs including Chief Kalima Nkonde, Chief Bwalya Mponda, Chief Kasoma Lunga and Chief Nsamba of the Lunga people as well as Chief Mulongwe among others.

The traditional leaders said as representatives of the people, they have pledged to firmly rally behind the Patriotic Front (PF) government under President Lungu for a better future for the people.

And Chief Nsamba of the Lunga people of Luapula™s Bangweulu swamps announced the five Lunga Chiefs were set to host this year™s Musubilwa Mpemba traditional ceremony on the swamps of Lake Bangweulu next weekend.

Chief Nsamba said the fundraising dinner to be held in Lusaka today was a curtain raiser for the June 30 event in which the people of Lunga district thanked their ancestors for the good rains and agricultural harvest from the last farming season.

He said the ceremony was a colourful tourism event that brought together people from the five chiefdoms that made up Lunga district as well as across the nation as a major tourist attraction.

fiThe Lunga people live on islands on Lake Bangweulu Swamps in Luapula Province. There are speed boat services to transport the people to Lunga district and we therefore invite the general public to come and attend the cheerful Musubilwa Mpemba Traditional Ceremonyfl he said.
