‘WE WON’T BE SWAYED’

…PF focused on dialogue

- By NATION REPORTER

THE Patriotic Front (PF) is focused on national dialogue and will not be swayed by careless statements aimed at disrupting the process, PF secretary general Davies Mwila has said.

Mr Mwila said the PF was happy that dialogue being organised by the Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) under the chairmanship of the church was progressing well.

He said at a media briefing in Kitwe yesterday that the PF would not be swayed by careless statements from some politicians who always wanted to find faults.

"The PF meant well on the gesture of dialogue because you can only achieve reconciliation with dialogue, but if some people want to talk for the sake of being heard, that is their own problem. Careless and irresponsible talk will not sway the PF's focus on dialogue.

"When President Edgar Lungu shook hands with UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, he meant well. It was actually a good sign showing that he is ready to dialogue, but if some people are so bitter and cannot appreciate that, then it is sad,'' Mr Mwila said.

Mr Mwila said the process of dialogue was progressing well and that there would be a summit of party presidents on national dialogue.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwila said the PF was set to scoop the eight by-elections compressing one mayoral and seven local government elections in Lusaka, Chilanga, Chifunabuli, Chasefu, Lumezi, Musindazi, Kasenengwa and Chipangali.

"I am saying PF will win these elections because we have formidable and experienced campaign teams capable of delivering the desired results. So we will carry the day," he said.

On the adoption of Miles Sampa as PF mayoral candidate for Lusaka, Mr Mwila said all those who were not picked should respect the choice of the central committee and support the preferred candidate of the party.

"We had 31 candidates and all of them were credible candidates, but we had to choose one candidate and this candidate is Miles Sampa. So following the adoption of Mr Sampa, we don't expect anyone to go outside the decision of the central committee.

"All party officials who supported different aspirants should follow the decision of the Central committee and campaign for the preferred candidate of the party," he said.
