PATRIOTIC Front mayoral candidate for Lusaka, Miles Sampa has pledged to maintain an open door policy once elected into office

Mr Sampa, who is former Matero Member of Parliament, remains optimistic of winning the seat, saying the party had already started strategisi­ng for the by-elections slated for July .

Mr Sampa said he was going to be more focused while bearing in mind that his opponents should not be taken for granted.

“As mayor of Lusaka I will ensure that I am accessible to all the members of the city, by making sure that everybody realises that it is their council.

³The first thing , will do in line with at-taining accessibil­ity by the people is put up a toll-free line to enhance communicat­ion with the people,” he said.

He explained that campaigns had already start-ed, adding that it would be a fast track cam-paign.

³:e want to finish and win the elections to prove to those doubting that the PF is still the party of choice for the Zambian people.

“It is not a question of if we win but by what margin we do so because I’am optimistic that we will win the seat. 2ur target is to win by a cricket score, he said.

He said the party had started strategic meet-ings to work on how they will campaign and at-tract more votes to the candidate.

He noted that among the plans he had for the city included decongesti­ng the roads to allow residents spend more time being productive rather than in traffic as well as upgrading shanty compounds.

The Lusaka mayoral position fell vacant after the death of :ilson .alumba on 0ay .

Over 30 candidates had applied to stand on the PF ticket in the forthcomin­g poll but the par-ty on Saturday announced the adoption of 0r. 6ampa as its mayoral candidate.

And other mayoral aspirants have welcomed Mr Sampa’s adoption and pledged to rally behind him.

Speaking to the Daily Nation soon after the announceme­nt was made on Saturday, former Lu-saka mayor, Daniel Chisenga, said he welcomed the decision and appealed to others who were in the race to support 0r 6ampa.
