‘STOP POLITICISI­NG BLACK MOUNTAIN ACCIDENT’

IT is inhuman and desperatio­n for any politician to use the death of Black Mountain victims to gain political mileage Zambia Markets Streets and Allied Workers Associatio­n (ZAMSAA) president Poster Jumbe has said.

0r -umbe said a responsibl­e politician should not attempt to gain political mileage over the death of the youths, but should instead discuss the solution to the problem.

He said in an interview in .itwe yesterday that it was against the =ambian culture for any right thinking person to gain mileage over the death of a person because such a person would be perceived to be celebratin­g the fatalities.

He was reacting to remarks by 1ational 5estoratio­n 3arty (1A5(3) leader (lias &hipimo that the 3atriotic )ront government was to blame over the %lack 0ountain accident.

0r -umbe also said politician­s should not blame the government over the %lack 0ountain disaster, but should blame &hapamo 0ineral 3rocessing /imited for not following the directives given by the 0ine 6afety 'epartment.

&hapamo 0ineral 3rocessing /imited is a special purpose vehicle encompassi­ng seven companies operating at the %lack 0ountain.

0r -umbe said if operations resumed at the %lack 0ountain, government through the 0ines 6afety 'epartment should ensure that safety measures were adhered to.

He also said people operating at the %lack 0ountain should undergo serious orientatio­n about safety and how to conduct themselves during operations at the site.
