SDA lauds State on cleaning exercise

SEVENTH-Day Adventist Church in Lusaka Province has praised Government for the initiative taken to have national cleaning exercise weekly. In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Lusaka Conference health director, Charity Ngondo said the SDA church has responded to government’s declaratio­n to keep Zambia clean by having cleaning exercises on weekends adding that the church was very appreciati­ve for allowing Adventist believers to do their cleaning on Sundays. “We have selected four sites namely Bauleni, Mahatma Gandhi in Mtenderes, John Laing and Chibolya grounds to remove garbage dumped where it should not be. I wish also to state that other SDA members are also cleaning their surroundin­gs in their communitie­s”, she said. Ms Ngondo thanked government for allowing SDAs to clean on Sundays. “We are appreciati­ng Government’s acceptance of our faith by allowing us to clean on Sundays”, she said. Speaking at the cleaning site in John Laing, SDA district pastor, Felix Kakwisa equally thanked Government for exempting SDAs from cleaning on Sabbath saying that the church will continue cleaning the designated places. Speaking on behalf of youths, Loveness Timbe called on youths to come on board to do the national duty by cleaning the surroundin­gs. “I wish to call upon all youths to spare the Sunday mornings and do some cleaning. Being the future leaders for this country, we are duty bound to abide by the laws of the country and make our nation clean”, she said Government through the Ministry of Local Government declared the last Saturday of the month for cleaning while it exempted SDAs who according to their biblical teaching (Exodus 20, Leviticus 23) Saturday is a day of rest and worship.
