Lungu’s pronouncement cheers traders’ foundation

- By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu’s announcement that Government plans to open more skills training centres through the Zambia National Service (ZNS) is a welcome development, says United Street Vendors Foundation (USVF) Southern Province chairperson, Fredrick Sakala.

Mr Sakala told the Daily Nation yesterday that the move will complement government’s efforts in creating employment for young people.

Mr. Sakala added that his foundation has a huge number of young people who are members but unemployed and many of them lack skills.

“If what the President said a few days ago will be honoured and implemented, some of these boys selling bananas and apples on the streets will benefit from the training because everyone today wants to have a skill so many of them are willing to be recruited as students in carpentry, bricklaying and many other courses,” he said.

On Friday in Kafue during the commissioning parade of

=16 officer cadets, 3resident Lungu announced the government’s plans of establishing more youth skills training centres across Zambia to help young people create their own jobs.

And the foundation has pleaded for an allocation of funds from the Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund being administered by Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe as patron.
