ZAMBIA has been placed in men’s Pool B with Ghana, Kenya and Namibia at the hockey Africa Youth Games (AYG) slated for July 18 to 29 in Algeria.

The tournament in Algeria will serve as Tualifiers for the 2018 Youth Olympics Games (YOG) in Argentina from October 6-18.

In Pool A are hosts Algeria, South Africa, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Head coach and Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) vice-president, Thomas Mumba described the Pool B as tricky and called for hard work from players.

Speaking in an interview, Mumba said all the three opponents had a good chance of winning the tournament adding that Zambia would not underestimate any team.

“Ghana, Kenya and Namibia are tough teams. We have played Kenya and Namibia before, so we know well what they are capable of, we have to prepare to beat all the three, though it will definitely not be an easy task,´ he said.

He expressed happiness with the team’s preparations so far.

Mumba urged the players to continue putting in the best to achieve the target of winning the tournament.

Zambia will only send a men’s team to the tournament following ZHA’s failure to raise funds for the girls’ team.

:inners and first runners-up from the African Youth Games will secure automatic Tualification to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October.
