Detained ‘Tokota Boys’ complain of torture

By NATION REPORTER THE 19 members of the infamous Tokota boys gan g have complained that they are allegedly being subjected to beatings at .amfinsa correction­al facility in Kitwe.

Limbikani Phiri 20, David Kateta 31, Lucky Mwaba 20, Wisdom Chilekwa 23, Bill Mulenga 20, Moses Chilambe 20, Boniface Lubansa 20, Wensy Chilembo 23, Richard Siame 20, Lazarus Zulu 19 and Kingsley Ngoma 24 years of age are detained at .amfinsa correction­al facilithy.

Others are detained at the same facility are Abraham Sikazwe 26, Teddy Chilufya 20, Bernard Chirwa 19, Sydney Kasase 27, Doctor Simwemba 20, Mills Mumba 28, Trust Sinkala 20 and a 15-year-old Juvenile.

The group appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Yvonne Nalomba for mention when they raised the complaint.

The 19 said they were in pain because of alleged constant beatings by warders.

They alleged that they were also being denied medical attention each time they complained of pain resulting from alleged beatings.

Ms Nalomba said the State would look into the matter, adding that the suspects were not supposed to be beaten.

Meanwhile, the court has granted bail to one of the three Tokota boys accused of gang rape.

This was when Richard Siame 20, of Chamboli township, Teddy Chilufya 20 of Wusakile and Chris Kalenga 21 also of Wusakile township appeared for commenceme­nt of trial.

Kalenga was granted bail of K10, 000 in his own recognisan­ce with two working sureties with traceable references.

The three are charged with three counts of rape.

In count one, Siame is charged with rape which he is alleged to have committed on February 2 this year. He is alleged to have unlawful sex of with a woman without her consent.

In the second count, Chilufya is charged with rape of a woman without her consent on the same date while Kalenga also faces the same charge.

However, trial could not take off because the key witness was not before court.

$ police officer, &onstable Phikisa Rinah said the witness who was the rape victim was informed and confirmed that she would testify.

He said the witness did not show up and her phone was switched off.

Ms Nalomba adjourned the matter to July 9, 2018 for commenceme­nt of trial.
