What’s the fuss about a hand shake?

- Dear Editor,

THE statement by our Republican President Edgar Lungu that there was nothing wrong to have shaken hands with UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema at late Daniel Munkombwe’s funeral in Choma, Southern Provi nce is timely and comes when some bad egs are trying to divi de our belove d nation.

I believe Zambia is a country renowned for peace which she has enjoyed since independence and that is why our first republican president, Dr Kenneth Kaunda promoted the One Zambia, One Nation Motto.

This is the slogan which we should practice not just preach about if we are to stand with our heads high before other nations as a country of peace and love.

=It is against this background that I wish to register my utter disappointment with UPND spokesperson, Charles Kakoma’s recent remarks that the hand shake between President Lungu and Mr Hichilema had nothing to do with reconciliation.

This goes to show that Mr Kakoma belongs to the stone age in which even if people shake hands they cannot be friends unless under certain conditionalities.

Mr Kakoma please grow up so that we look to you as our role model in terms of national development and for the sake of unity in the nation where tribe does not matter.

Little wonder your party has often times being labeled a regional party because of people like you who always think the opposite when others are in the right direction.

Yours in national servi ce Charles Zimba
