LUSAKA TRADERS URGED TO COOPERATE

-

By NATION REPORTER LUSAKA traders have been advised to give way to the contractor rehabilitating Lumumba Road so that the works can be completed on time.

The Association of Vendors and Marketeers (AVEMA) has pleaded with its members in Lusaka to give way to the contractor rehabilitating Lumumba Road because it was dangerous to trade close the road under rehabilitation.

Association President Able Chikwa said it was dangerous for vendors to continue operating where the road works were being done because some vendors could be injured in the process.

At the weekend, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo said that he would not allow any street vendor to disturb road works on Lumumba road.

Mr Chikwa also advised members in Lusaka to cooperate with the contractor and the government on issues of national development. “Good roads will benefit every Zambian and so, it is important that our colleagues in Lusaka cooperate and give way to the contractor doing road works on Lumumba Road. The problem is that, if they insist on trading where road works are in progress , they may get hurt by the big machines,’’ Mr Chikwa said.

And Zambia Markets, 6treets and Allied Workers Association ZAM6AA ,nterim President Poster -umbe said Zambia would only develop if policies that mean well for the country are supported by all Zambians regardless of their political affiliations.

+e urged Zambians to change their attitude towards work and embrace unity in diversity in order to set the stage for economic recovery and national unity.

“We need to embrace unity in diversity so that we can move together. ,f the ruling party comes up with an idea which means well, the opposition should support it. ,f it has loopholes, they should suggest how the ideas can be refined,” he said.
